History

Launched in 1946 by The Junior League of Spokane, Spokane Children's Theatre continues today as one of the few community children's theatre groups in the country completely independent from sponsorship by any other theatrical or education  or religious institution.

When celebrating our 50th anniversary, Spokane Children's Theatre expanded their  performance locations to include the Met Theatre housing more then 750 seats per show. With this new achievement Spokane Children's Theatre can now bus in school children for day time Performances. And with this we are able to share the love of theatre with children of all ages.

AUDIENCE

Audiences are drawn from Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, serving 25,000-30,000 yearly.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Since 1970 premier performances of 11 new scripts by local playwrights have been produced by Spokane Children's Theatre. Some of these shows have subsequently been published, won awards, been invited to national and regional theatre conferences, and have been produced by other theatre groups throughout the nation. In the spring of 1977, 1996, 1998, and 2000, Spokane Children's Theatre hosted a Northwest Regional Children's Theatre Play Festival which included a variety of theatre oriented workshops and shows presented by companies from Washington, Idaho, Oregon and California.

AWARDS

In 1995, Spokane Children's Theatre received the Outstanding Arts Organization award presented by the Spokane Arts Commission.

In 1997, Spokane Children's Theatre took 2nd place with it's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the Washington State Community Theatre Association Play competition.

In March of 2001, Spokane Children's Theatre tied 1st place with it's production of "Pinocchio" at the Washington State Community Theatre Association Play competition.

In April of 2001, Spokane Children's Theatre won 1st place with it's production of "Pinocchio" at the Regional #9 Community Theatre Association Play competition.

In June of 2001, Spokane Children's Theatre takes their cast and crew of "Pinocchio" to the National Association of Community Theatre Association Play competition in Harrisburg, Pa.
